About the position

The CAD Designer position at John Galt Staffing in Lexington, MA, is a long-term contract role expected to last over three years. The primary focus of this role is to develop complex designs that optimize performance while ensuring ease of fabrication, assembly, and testing of intricate imaging systems and thermal packaging solutions. The designer will work on a variety of platforms, including manned and unmanned vehicles, aircraft, ships, and spacecraft, which requires a broad understanding of mechanical design principles and practices. In this role, the CAD Designer will be responsible for the design and modeling of mechanical enclosures and optical assemblies. This includes understanding the requirements for mounting, adjustment, actuation, alignment, and measurement techniques, as well as working with precision bearings, gearing, drive systems, and conducting structural and thermal analysis. Collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team is essential, and the designer must possess strong written and oral communication skills to effectively convey ideas and designs. The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in mechanical design and proficiency in mechanical CAD software, particularly SolidWorks. Candidates should have extensive experience with mechanisms and complex mechanical assemblies, as well as familiarity with various fabrication techniques such as machining and sheet metal work. Knowledge of thermal and structural analysis, as well as optical systems and EO/IR system design, is also necessary. US citizenship is required, and candidates must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance, with an interim clearance acceptable to start.
