About the position

SAIC is seeking a CAD Designer to support the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDEVCOM), Engineering and Systems Integration (ESI) Directorate, Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) Branch. This position is on-site in Aberdeen, MD, and involves working closely with design teams to create 3D models from initial drawings and schematics in a computer-aided design (CAD) environment. The CAD Designer will collaborate with engineering and product development teams to translate conceptual designs into tangible products, ensuring that all designs are accurate, functional, and manufacturable. In this role, the CAD Designer will be responsible for digitizing, editing, and revising engineering drawings of components, parts, circuits, structures, and assemblies. They will check drawing plots against project inputs for correctness and adherence to standards, and work with engineers to ensure model accuracy and compliance with design and drafting standards. The designer may also perform engineering computations, mathematical calculations, and prepare or revise specifications as needed. Additionally, the CAD Designer will prepare pattern generating or artwork tapes for mask fabrication and operate plotters to obtain circuit drawings. They will select and monitor vendor support for CAD engineers and technicians, ensuring the use of state-of-the-art applications and equipment. The role also involves overseeing software enhancements to meet company standards and practices, promoting the expansion of applications for users, and providing advice on system maintenance and problem areas. Close collaboration with design engineers and technicians is essential to ensure project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Work with design teams to 3D model initial drawings and schematics in a computer environment.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product development teams to translate conceptual designs into tangible products.
  • Digitize, edit, and revise engineering drawings of components, parts, circuits, structures, and assemblies.
  • Check drawing plots versus project input for correctness and conformance to standards.
  • Work with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.
  • Make engineering computations and mathematical calculations, determine scales, and prepare or revise specifications.
  • Prepare pattern generating or artwork tapes for mask fabrication and operate plotters to obtain circuit drawings.
  • Select and monitor vendor support for CAD engineers and technicians to ensure state-of-the-art applications and equipment.
  • Oversee enhancement of software to company standards and practices, promoting expansion of applications for users.
  • Monitor those who maintain the system and provide advice regarding problem areas and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with design engineers and technicians to ensure projects are completed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years or more experience; four (4) years' experience can be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience working in SolidWorks is a must.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical drawing creation and review.
  • Strong technical, interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment and able to take direction and constructive criticism.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance is required; a TS/SCI Security Clearance is required to maintain employment.
