About the position

The CAD Designer at Alloy Engineering Co & Subs is responsible for utilizing 3D CAD design programs, specifically SolidWorks, to create detailed drawings and models that meet customer specifications for manufacturing. This role involves collaboration with various teams, including engineering, sales, and production, to ensure accurate and efficient design processes. The designer will prepare layout, detail, and assembly drawings while maintaining adherence to industry standards such as AWS and ASME.

Responsibilities

  • Use SolidWorks to create and design production drawings.
  • Transform initial rough product designs into final, usable models and drawings that meet project requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure they adhere to specifications and standards like AWS or ASME.
  • Develop design concepts while completing design layouts and assembly drawings, collaborating with engineers to refine and finalize concepts.
  • Create Alloy Engineering drawings (shop fabrication drawings) from scratch or based on customer-supplied drawings and information.
  • Utilize Alloy Engineering's vault to safely save and store finalized drawings and models.
  • Maintain drawing revision control when updating drawings.
  • Participate in design reviews with customers to ensure satisfaction and address any feedback.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand 2D engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Ability to mentally visualize and create designs, and effectively translate them into accurate drawings and models.
  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex design and engineering problems using drawings, math, and other tools.
  • Multitasking with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Desire to learn, grow, and advance within the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS in Engineering, or equivalent real-world experience.
  • Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • CAD certification training.
  • Experience in a steel manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Exposure to steel welding, cutting, and forming is a plus.
