About the position

The CAD Designer at WesTech Engineering, LLC is responsible for participating in automated drafting activities to create structural, mechanical, and engineering drawings for water, wastewater, and industrial equipment and systems. This role involves working collaboratively within a design team to interpret contract drawings, maintain accurate sets of drawings, and ensure that all work is completed on time and within budget constraints. The position requires a strong understanding of CAD software and design principles, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and manage complex CAD models.

Responsibilities

  • Draw structural, mechanical, and engineering details of equipment and structures using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Utilize engineering handbooks, design manuals, and part catalogs to gather data for drawings.
  • Work as a member of a design team to produce accurate drawings from contract specifications.
  • Maintain sets of drawings and implement drawing changes as needed.
  • Prepare a variety of detail drawings that are clear and complete on the first attempt.
  • Create detail drawings from sketches or layouts based on verbal instructions.
  • Ensure all assignments are completed on time and within budget constraints.
  • Visually compare designs with drawings to ensure accuracy of fit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Product Design and Development, Design Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software.
  • Understanding of design concepts, planning techniques, and engineering drafting practices.
  • Ability to prepare layouts and drawings accurately and legibly.
  • Proficiency in making mathematical calculations related to drafting work.
  • Ability to maintain records and drawings relevant to the work.
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Six or more years of related experience.
  • Experience in complex CAD model management and CAD library management.
  • Ability to teach and mentor others.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and CREO.
  • Experience in structural detailing and GDT.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication.
