About the position

The CAD Designer role involves creating and revising detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks. The position requires collaboration with production teams to ensure designs meet manufacturing and assembly requirements, while also managing CAD file organization and lifecycle. The designer will be responsible for developing components for various manufacturing processes and participating in design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Develop part and assembly models in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
  • Design components for manufacturing processes including sheet plastic routing, fusion welding, sheet metal bending, waterjet cutting, and CNC machining.
  • Create and revise production engineering drawings that include multiple detailed views, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to understand fabrication and assembly process requirements for efficient manufacturing.
  • Create and release bills of materials for mechanical assemblies.
  • Utilize SolidWorks Product Data Management system for organized file storage and lifecycle management of CAD files.
  • Participate in Design Reviews and check drawings prepared by Engineers and other Designers.

Requirements

  • CAD certification and/or two-year technical AA degree.
  • 5 years work experience in CAD design.
  • Advanced skill with SolidWorks CAD and PDM.
  • Portfolio demonstrating 3D modeling capability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, accountable, and continuously improving.
  • Ability to work well with others on a cross-functional team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Plan and elevation system views in AutoCAD.
  • Mechanical piping systems design.
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Administration of Product Data Management systems.
  • Advanced SolidWorks design modules including frames, routing, sheet metal, and large assemblies.
  • Structural analysis using SolidWorks Simulation FEA.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5.
  • Electrical schematic creation in AutoCAD Electrical.
