About the position

The CAD Designer position at COMTEC INFORMATION SYSTEMS involves designing major components or significant portions of functional systems aimed at developing or improving products and facilitating manufacturing operations. The role requires the utilization of CAD equipment to create basic data, preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary for presenting design proposals. The designer will investigate and make decisions regarding various design factors, including ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, and cost considerations. As an experienced professional, the CAD Designer will possess proficient knowledge in the job area and practical knowledge of project management. The position may involve managing projects or processes under general supervision. Effective communication with contacts both inside and outside the department is essential to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures. The designer will also recommend enhancements to systems and processes, working towards achieving operational targets for specific programs and projects that have a moderate impact on departmental results.

Responsibilities

  • Design major components or portions of functional systems to improve products and manufacturing operations.
  • Utilize CAD equipment to develop basic data and create preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
  • Investigate and make decisions regarding design factors such as ease of manufacture, material availability, and cost.
  • Communicate with internal and external contacts to explain operational processes and procedures.
  • Recommend enhancements to systems and processes to improve efficiency.
  • Manage projects or processes with general supervision, ensuring operational targets are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience, or a Graduate Degree with 0 to 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience in the use of 3D CAD, preferably PTC Creo.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Defense/Military electronics packaging experience.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 environmental standards.
  • Experience in performing tolerance stack-up analysis.
