About the position

The Senior CAD Designer will play a crucial role in the design and drafting process for a leading national home builder. This position involves creating and maintaining detailed floor plans, ensuring that customizations meet client needs while adhering to company standards and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD, and will be responsible for managing the submission of drawings for permits and coordinating with city officials throughout the design approval process.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all CAD drawings to ensure compliance with production standards and city requirements, including fire ratings and permitting.
  • Regularly update plans for code compliance and continuous design improvement while managing feedback from local building departments.
  • Obtain essential documents such as plot plans, surveys, truss engineering, and energy calculations.
  • Maintain organized records of revised construction details and current plot files for timely access and printing.
  • Oversee the preparation, submission, and tracking of plot plans, lot inspections, and building permits across municipalities to align with construction deadlines.
  • Collaborate with salespeople on customer requests, making adjustments in both production and custom home drawings.
  • Assist the Customer Relations, Product Development, and Production departments in integrating design changes into existing and new plans.
  • Systematically archive plans for future reference to ensure easy retrieval.
  • Follow company policies and procedures to support cost-effective and timely methods within the department.
  • Work collaboratively with other Plans Department staff to deliver high-quality, efficient output.

Requirements

  • A degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, though extensive experience in CAD design may substitute for formal education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CAD design within the residential construction industry, particularly in production home building.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Revit is a plus but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, permitting processes, and fire ratings.
