About the position

SAIC is seeking a CAD Designer to support the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDEVCOM), Engineering and Systems Integration (ESI) Directorate, Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) Branch. This position is on-site in Aberdeen, MD, and involves working closely with design teams to create 3D models from initial drawings and schematics in a computer-aided design (CAD) environment. The CAD Designer will collaborate with engineering and product development teams to translate conceptual designs into tangible products, ensuring that these designs are accurate, functional, and manufacturable. In this role, the CAD Designer will be responsible for digitizing, editing, and revising engineering drawings of components, parts, circuits, structures, and assemblies. They will check drawing plots against project inputs for correctness and adherence to standards. The designer will work with engineers to ensure model accuracy, design integrity, and compliance with drafting standards and Engineering Change Notices (ECN/ECR) documentation. Additionally, the CAD Designer may perform engineering computations and mathematical calculations, determine scales, and prepare or revise specifications as needed. The position also involves preparing pattern generating or artwork tapes for mask fabrication and operating plotters to obtain circuit drawings. The CAD Designer will select and monitor vendor support for CAD engineers and technicians, ensuring the use of state-of-the-art applications and equipment. They will oversee the enhancement of software to meet company standards and practices, promoting the expansion of applications for users. Furthermore, the designer will monitor system maintenance and provide advice on problem areas and corrective actions. Close collaboration with design engineers and technicians is essential to ensure that projects are completed successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Works with design teams to 3D model initial drawings and schematics in a computer environment.
  • Collaborates closely with engineering and product development teams to translate conceptual designs into tangible products.
  • Digitizes, edits, and revises engineering drawings of components, parts, circuits, structures, and/or assemblies.
  • Checks drawing plots versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards.
  • Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.
  • May make engineering computations, mathematical calculations, determine scales, and prepare or revise specifications.
  • Prepares pattern generating or artwork tapes for mask fabrication and operates plotters to obtain circuit drawings.
  • Selects and monitors vendor support for CAD engineers and technicians to ensure state-of-the-art applications and equipment.
  • Oversees enhancement of software to company standards and practices, promotes expansion of applications for users.
  • Monitors those who maintain the system and provides advice regarding problem areas and corrective action to be taken.
  • Works closely with design engineers and technicians to ensure projects are completed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years or more experience; four (4) years' experience can be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • MUST have experience working in SolidWorks.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical drawing creation and review.
  • Strong technical, interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment and able to take direction and constructive criticism.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance is required; a TS/SCI Security Clearance is required to maintain employment.
