About the position

The Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Drafter III will play a crucial role in supporting the Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I)/Information Technology (IT) electronic systems equipment and infrastructure. This position involves engineering, design, installation, and supply and warehouse support to the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific). The CAD Drafter III will be responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and transition to operations of the IT infrastructure across multiple facilities throughout the performance period. The services required include the design, installation, termination, testing, and documentation of desktop devices, peripherals, IT cable plant, racks, and power distribution units (PDU) related to the installation of C4I/IT electronic systems. The role also includes the installation of C4I/IT electronic systems equipment as assigned, adhering to government installation design plans (IDP), the NIWC Pacific Shore Installation Process Handbook (SIPH), and project sponsor processes along with associated logistical support. The work environment is primarily within existing classified office spaces, IT data centers, telecommunications spaces, or other designated areas for housing C4I/IT electronics systems equipment, including newly constructed secure buildings. The technical requirements for this position are applicable across multiple United States Space Command (USSC) and USSC Component Command Locations in the Colorado Springs area. As a federal contractor, CNI maintains a drug-free workplace and adheres to the Federal Controlled Substance Act. The CAD Drafter III must possess and maintain a current TS clearance, with SCI eligibility being highly preferred. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and qualified in the use of the latest versions of AutoCAD and REVIT, along with other technical drafting and illustration software to create various types of plans and technical illustrations for the preparation of all drawings. Familiarity with telecommunications, AV, telecommunications cabling, and general engineering guidelines and design for OSP and ISP spaces is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provides computer-aided design drafting, prepares drawings and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Utilizes CAD software and other techniques, standards, and tools to prepare technical drawings, coordinating and consulting with engineers and/or designers to complete projects.
  • Transforms initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software.
  • Reviews engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards, collaborating with other departmental leads to resolve discrepancies between originals and final CAD designs.
  • Creates, modifies, converts, and provides telecommunications drawings, figures, illustrations, and schematics by automated and manual methods for all systems.
  • Uses drafting procedures, processes, technical specifications, and engineering parameters of systems and equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Works with engineers and other designers to prepare drawings showing telecommunications outlet placement, IT room layouts, rack elevations, wall elevations, connectivity one-line drawings, and detail drawings consisting of different telecommunications installation instructions which require a high degree of precision.
  • Updates redlined drawings from the field to create a final client deliverable package.
  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description, and supervisor's instruction to maximize personal output.
  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in drafting or a related field from a technical or community college and a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a current TS clearance; SCI eligibility is highly preferred.
  • Qualified in the use of the latest version of AutoCAD and REVIT and other technical drafting/illustration software.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications, AV, telecommunications cabling, and general engineering guidelines and design for OSP and ISP spaces.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Highly organized and extremely detail-oriented with the ability to quickly grasp instructions.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to manage workload and time effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment for the successful achievement of goals.
  • Understanding of communications engineering and related systems.
  • Previous experience working in computer-aided design, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and database proficiency.
