About the position

The CAD Drafter position at Actalent involves providing distribution design for overhead and underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 69kV. The role focuses on design activities, quality reviews, project schedule management, risk identification, and opportunities for design improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design overhead and/or underground distribution facilities.
• Prepare design sketches, drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and any other required documents for construction.
• Apply client's standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, procedures, and industry standards in preparing the design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution facilities.
• Perform distribution system design calculations.
• Prepare and oversee preparation of design documents for construction, including plan and profiles, structure loadings, design details, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications.
• Communicate with clients and engineers on system requirements, and identify Right of Way for proposed equipment.
• Acquire field data as necessary, and work with field surveying to prepare appropriate design.

Requirements

• Two to five years of experience in the design of electric utility distribution systems in consulting or utility environment responsible for delivery of design and construction packages.
• Two to five years of experience of electrical design experience using Microstation or AutoCAD.
• Two to five years of experience of a distribution design software (DDS).
• Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience and/or education.

Nice-to-haves

• Demonstrate intermediate ability to develop wiring diagrams and cable/conduit tables from schematics.
• Intermediate knowledge of one-line drawings, three-line electrical drawings, fuse and circuit breaker coordination.
• Intermediate understanding of design practices and engineering systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Demonstrate intermediate ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.
• Demonstrate intermediate willingness and capabilities to assume leadership role.
