About the position

TranSystems Corporation is excited to announce an entry-level position for a CAD/Engineering Technician in Kansas City, MO. This role is ideal for individuals with a basic operational understanding of computer graphics and drafting. The successful candidate will be responsible for copying sketches, layouts, and drawings prepared by others onto CAD systems. As part of the role, the technician will learn to operate computer-aided drafting and design input stations, with assignments of increasing difficulty as proficiency is gained. The position requires adherence to the company's standard CAD procedures, including levels, line styles, and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout. The technician will work flexibly with various project teams to assist in project completion and is expected to maintain a neat and orderly work area to facilitate access to project information for team members. In addition to technical skills, the role demands strong problem-solving abilities, effective task management, and a commitment to customer service. The technician will need to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to perform basic mathematical operations and understand engineering and architectural scales is essential. The technician will also be expected to maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops and professional networking. This position may require some travel to offices and client sites, utilizing various modes of transportation, including automobiles and airlines. There is a potential that this will be a part-time position, providing flexibility for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Copy sketches, layouts, and drawings prepared by others onto CAD systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.
  • Basic understanding of Engineering and Architectural Scales.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Task management skills to coordinate tasks and communicate progress to supervisors.
  • Customer service skills to respond promptly to customer needs and solicit feedback.
  • Teamwork skills to balance individual and team responsibilities.

  • Dependability in following instructions and keeping commitments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation; Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam required.
  • Knowledge of Revit and Civil 3D desired.
  • At least 2 years of related experience.
