About the position

The CAD Layout Designer at Teledyne Technologies is responsible for creating and updating PCB layouts for medium to high-density designs. This role involves collaborating with engineers to ensure designs meet electrical and mechanical specifications while adhering to IPC standards. The designer will utilize CAD software to produce detailed drawings and documentation, support manufacturing processes, and enhance productivity through automation.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze engineering design schematics and supporting documents to plan for component placement and layout of PCB.
  • Place and route designs quickly and accurately, incorporating scripts in relevant languages (TCL, Perl, or SKILL) to increase productivity.
  • Work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop boards and layouts that meet expected characteristics.
  • Create and update schematic diagrams, produce final documentation, assembly and fabrication drawings, and verify completed work.
  • Create new part symbols and footprints for the library, assign part numbers, and maintain the component database.
  • Efficiently rework PCB designs of various complexities.
  • Release design documentation into the PLM/ERP system.
  • Support the CAD group to increase productivity of the design engineering team.
  • Interact with external organizations to manage workload during peak times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Some knowledge of electrical and electronic design is welcome.
  • Experience in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD tools (Cadence or Altium) and IPC guidelines is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with a high-level script language to support automation in a PCB design tool.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Cadence tools would be preferred but not required.
  • Creating new functions to automate time-consuming and repetitive manual tasks in CAD designs.
  • Knowledge of electronic components and maintenance of master parts entry database with compliance to engineering documentation control and IPC standards.
