About the position

The CAD Technician role involves working in a manufacturing environment, focusing on additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping. The technician will be responsible for day-to-day operations, communication with engineers, and managing various 3D printing processes. This position requires a solid understanding of CAD software and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, with a strong emphasis on quality control and effective manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of 3D printers and additive manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers regarding printing processes and materials.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles.
  • Utilize CAD, CAM, and ERP software to follow various manufacturing processes.
  • Perform basic inspections and quality assurance checks on printed parts.
  • Maintain accurate records and data collection related to manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in an engineering/business discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing operations environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PC skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and basic knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with CAD, CAM, and ERP software.
  • Prior experience with rapid prototyping or 3D printing, especially stereolithography, FDM, and SLS.
  • Experience working with basic shop tools and hand tools.
  • Customer service and interaction experience.
  • Good record-keeping and data collection skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic understanding of machine tools (milling, lathe, drill presses, CNC) and heat treating.
  • Basic ordering and shipping experience.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, 17025 documentation requirements.
  • Experience with part inspection and metrology or quality assurance is a plus.
  • A degree in engineering, science, or technology is strongly preferred.
