About the position

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to support the Center for the Advancement of Data and Research in Economics (CADRE). This role involves managing and administering various technology services, including virtualization platforms, storage systems, and data backup solutions, to facilitate data-intensive research and analytics for the Economic Research division. The position requires collaboration with a diverse team and a commitment to personal development and training.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, install, and support virtualization platforms, storage systems, and backup solutions.
  • Respond to user requests via a ticketing tool.
  • Monitor and manage system health and capacity.
  • Collaborate with CADRE engineers and System IT resources to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Manage vendor relationships and collaborate on yearly budgeting processes related to hardware refreshes and new system purchases.
  • Manage physical assets within the Kansas City data center.
  • Review and analyze business and technical requirements and implement technical solutions to meet those requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Typically requires at least 6-15+ years of relevant and progressive information technology experience directly related to design, installation, and support of information technology infrastructure.
  • Bachelor's degree specializing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of directly related education and/or experience.
  • Experience supporting and administering virtualization platforms (VMware), Storage Area Networks (SANs), backend switches, and data backup tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, able to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical teammates and customers.
  • Adept at solving problems and able to analyze details while concurrently adopting a big picture view.

Nice-to-haves

  • Automation experience with Ansible, Salt, and Gitlab CI/CD runners.
  • PostgreSQL/Greenplum experience would be a plus.
  • Experience with *nix background, comfortable with using Linux CLI tools and working with remote servers via SSH.
