About the position

The Compensation Analyst (HR Consultant- Journey) plays a crucial role in advising campus supervisors and managers on work planning and organizational development within the Cooperative Extension Department. This position is responsible for managing employment and salary actions for SHRA and EHRA employees, providing support in position management, classification, and compensation. The analyst serves as a strategic partner, ensuring compliance with compensation policies and best practices while maintaining market competitiveness. Additionally, the role involves evaluating salary offers and adjustments, guiding managers in restructuring positions, and staying informed about career ladder structures.

Responsibilities

  • Advise campus supervisors and first-line managers on work planning and organizational development.
  • Respond to requests for employment and salary actions for SHRA and EHRA employees.
  • Provide support in position management, classification, and compensation.
  • Assist users of the PeopleAdmin position management module and maintain user types and workflows.
  • Create and maintain university organizational charts and track actions.
  • Apply knowledge of EHRA/SHRA/NTTF position classification requirements and competency standards.
  • Evaluate and endorse salary offers and adjustments resulting from employment and classification activity.
  • Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations regarding compensation strategies.
  • Partner with various levels across the university and external agencies to provide guidance on compliance and policy.
  • Stay abreast of the career ladder structure for the County Operations component of the NC Cooperative Extension program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of position classification and compensation systems, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with Banner and PeopleAdmin systems.
  • Working knowledge of compensation analysis and organizational design.
  • Familiarity with Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other pertinent laws.
  • General knowledge of human resources administration principles and methods.
  • Skills in project management, conflict resolution, and effective communication.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using HRIS and Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in classification and compensation within the University of North Carolina System.
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in employment and recruitment.
