About the position

As the Café Team Expert at Barnes & Noble, you will lead and motivate the café team to deliver exceptional customer service and operational excellence. Your role involves creating a vibrant café environment, achieving sales goals, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. You will act as a role model, providing coaching and support to team members while collaborating with the café market leader and store manager.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the café floor, engaging in physical activities such as prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and operating espresso machines.
  • Deliver an excellent café customer experience and motivate the café team.
  • Maintain a clean and vibrant café environment, ensuring presentation and cleanliness standards are met.
  • Manage the bake case effectively throughout the day using prep sheets.
  • Prepare for and execute product launches, particularly limited-time offerings.
  • Review sales, inventory, and waste reports to maximize profitability.
  • Follow café ordering practices for a diverse product mix.
  • Ensure quality standards in beverage and food preparation and presentation.
  • Create a positive learning environment through clear and respectful coaching and feedback.
  • Support the café team with company-provided training and coaching tools.
  • Demonstrate operational excellence to maximize efficiency and minimize loss.
  • Ensure compliance with café safety and operational standards.
  • Communicate key issues and messages respectfully and timely with the store and café team.
  • Assist the café market leader in managing the team and supporting initiatives.

Requirements

  • Solid café, food service, or hospitality knowledge.
  • Passion for the café business with excellent service standards.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Understanding of the café business and the impact of ordering and sales on results.
  • Experience in building collaborative and productive working relationships.
  • Ability to empathize and understand people.
  • Skill in delivering honest and constructive feedback.
  • Problem-solving abilities and good decision-making skills.
