About the position

The Cafeteria Support Worker at Bob Hope School is a part-time position responsible for preparing and serving food in accordance with menu requirements while maintaining high standards of quality, sanitation, and safety. The role involves working under moderate supervision to ensure that food is prepared and served efficiently, and that the kitchen environment is clean and organized. This position is essential in supporting the food services department and promoting a positive dining experience for students.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare quality food for breakfast, lunch, and snack items as assigned by the manager.
  • Replenish food during serving time.
  • Serve food according to meal schedules and departmental policies, promoting portion control and proper use of leftovers.
  • Store and handle food items and supplies safely according to established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene standards.
  • Assist with cashier functions and maintain stock room.
  • Record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
  • Maintain daily food preparation records.
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
  • Complete annual training requirements.
  • Rotate positions/stations in the kitchen as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Take temperatures and record on temperature logs for food being received and delivered.
  • Set up tables in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch service.
  • Monitor the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch service as needed.
  • Report accidents and potential safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Move equipment as needed and maintain custodial supplies.
  • Communicate positively with supervisors, staff, students, and parents.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in food handling or preparation.
  • Food Handlers Certification from an ANSI accredited program or obtained during employment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and knowledge of quantity food preparation principles.
  • Working knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment and food production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
