About the position
The Cafeteria Worker is responsible for performing routine tasks in the preparation and serving of food items within the Scituate Public School District. The role focuses on producing high-quality, nutritious meals that comply with USDA regulations while ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining a friendly demeanor towards students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of foods following standard recipes and portion control protocols.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen, food prep, and storage areas under supervision.
- Sets up serving lines and steam tables for meal service.
- Serves food to students, faculty, and guests while following safety and sanitation protocols.
- Ensures proper storage of foods and supplies, including labeling and dating food items.
- Completes temperature and sanitation logs as required.
- Washes, sanitizes, and stores dishes, pans, and utensils after use.
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas regularly.
- Acts as a cashier, collecting payments for food items and accurately recording transactions in the point of sale system.
- Demonstrates proficiency in 'offer vs. serve' and USDA reimbursable meals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Current Safe Serve or similar approved Food Safety certificate.
- Current Food Allergy Awareness Certification.
- Choke Safe Certification.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a diverse staff.
- Participation in professional development and training in Child Nutrition to meet USDA standards.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work on feet for most of the day and lift up to 50lbs.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
