About the position

The Cafeteria Worker position at Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District is a part-time role focused on food preparation and service within a school environment. The worker will be responsible for preparing meals according to dietary guidelines, ensuring food quality, and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen. This position requires effective communication and the ability to follow directions while working in a team-oriented setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare foods in accordance with dietary guidelines and menu specifications.
  • Perform quality controls including sampling foods to ensure taste and texture are acceptable.
  • Implement just-in-time and/or batch cooking to preserve food quality.
  • Ensure all meals are served at appropriate temperatures and times.
  • Present foods in a visually pleasing manner.
  • Conform to safe food handling, storage, and sanitation methods according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Prepare food according to recipes and directions provided by the Kitchen Manager and/or Director.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of portion control and identify proper portion utensils.
  • Follow standardized recipes; measure and weigh ingredients according to instructions.
  • Assemble food and other supplies necessary to prepare recipes.
  • Familiarize with the use and care of all kitchen equipment.
  • Act as cashier during meal service when required.
  • Serve meals prepared to students and staff with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by practicing a clean-as-you-go technique.
  • Maintain accurate account of each sale, receive cash and automatic payments, and balance drawer against register tape and cash out slip at the end of the day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of experience in food preparation or related field.
  • Working knowledge of food products, supplies, equipment, methods, and techniques used in food preparation and cooking.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions.
  • Ability to perform simple math functions.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
