About the position

The Cage Wash Technician I is responsible for maintaining the sanitation of cages and supplies to ensure animal welfare and compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves organizing the Cage Wash area, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance checks to uphold productivity and safety standards. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential overtime and holiday work.

Responsibilities

• Transports cages using a two-person procedure
• Performs cage rack preparation according to Standard Operating Procedures
• Operates automated Cage Wash Machine according to Rack Washer Operation Instructions
• Loads and unloads automated Cage Wash Machine
• Performs daily routine maintenance checks on the automated cage wash machines
• Records all required tasks accurately in logbooks
• Prioritizes and prepares caging for new animals
• Tests functionality of all moving parts on each cage rack
• Reports equipment repair needs to appropriate personnel
• Stores enrichment devices by type and sorts for functionality
• Organizes, cleans, and maintains the cage wash area
• Replenishes cleaning chemicals as needed
• Ensures equipment is cleaned and stored properly at the end of the day
• Sanitizes floors, walls, and other surfaces in the automatic cage wash areas
• May assist with Animal Care sanitation tasks
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
• 1 year experience in a physically demanding role
• Experience working in lab animal vivarium preferred
• Experience in an environment requiring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintaining records preferred
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and complete required documentation
• Ability to work independently and as a team member with good interpersonal skills
