About the position

The Senior Academic Support Specialist at East Carolina University will play a crucial role in facilitating student retention and success within the College of Allied Health Sciences. This full-time position focuses on developing and implementing support initiatives for undergraduate and graduate students, enhancing their educational experience and achieving expected learning outcomes. The specialist will provide training, counseling, and resources to promote academic and personal success, while also collaborating with faculty and interprofessional teams to foster effective communication and teamwork among students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate early proactive and early intervention support initiatives for student success.
  • Provide training, programs, and interventions that support academic, personal, and professional student success.
  • Serve as a consultative resource for students and faculty regarding complex student support situations.
  • Collaborate with the CAHS Interprofessional Educational Task Force to provide interprofessional education.
  • Organize, deliver, and evaluate workshops and independent learning modules on various topics impacting student success.
  • Provide individual and small-group learning opportunities for students to enhance their study skills and professional development.
  • Counsel students who require test accommodations and ensure referrals to ECU Disability Support Services.
  • Respond to students with academic difficulties with evidence-based interventions.
  • Consult with faculty to implement remediation plans and supplemental instruction as needed.
  • Develop directed initiatives for specific subgroups of diverse healthcare learners.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling, clinical mental health counseling, psychology, healthcare, or a related field.
  • Two years' experience in a post-secondary setting.
  • Experience as an educator, counselor, academic counselor, or in a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of psychological and educational assessment techniques.
  • Experience working with health professionals undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience with Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice.
  • Experience in conducting educational workshops, seminars, and small group sessions.
  • Understanding of cognitive development and emotional intelligence.
  • Experience in online student support.
