About the position

The Calderwood Curatorial Fellow in South Asian and Islamic Art at Harvard University is a full-time position designed to enhance the professional experience of individuals pursuing careers in art history and related fields. The Fellow will conduct object-based research on the Harvard Art Museums' extensive collections, focusing on South Asian and Islamic art from the early modern era. This role involves developing installations for galleries, assisting with curatorial activities, and providing content expertise for educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct object-based research on the collections of the Harvard Art Museums, focusing on South Asian and Islamic art.
• Develop argument-driven installations for the galleries of South Asian and Islamic Art.
• Assist with cataloging the permanent collection in the Art Museums' database.
• Support new acquisitions, permanent gallery changes, and special exhibitions.
• Provide content expertise for teaching in the galleries and the Museums' Art Study Center.
• Staff Art Study Center sessions and participate in art handling workshops.
• Contribute to public and academic interpretive programs across various platforms.
• Participate in regular cohort meetings and training activities as part of the Fellows' cohort.
• Supervise students and temporary employees as needed.

Requirements

• MA in Art History or related field is required.
• PhD in Art History is a plus, with specialization in South Asian and/or Persian painting of the 14th - 19th centuries.
• Proficiency in Persian and/or Urdu, Hindi, or Sanskrit is desirable.
• Curatorial or related experience is helpful.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
