About the position

The Petroleum Inspector at Intertek Caleb Brett is responsible for conducting independent assessments of the quantity and quality of petroleum and other commodities. This role involves performing volume and temperature measurements, sampling, and documentation to ensure accurate reporting. The position requires significant travel, approximately 75% of the time, and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Perform volume measurements, temperature measurements, and sampling of commodity materials.
  • Conduct visual inspections on lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships.
  • Complete custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from various transport methods.
  • Perform routine equipment calibrations, verification, and function checks.
  • Verify and communicate results, making entries into appropriate media for validity and traceability.
  • Assist and receive training from more experienced inspectors.
  • Coordinate with terminal, transport, and company personnel for smooth operations.
  • Monitor supply availability and communicate needs to the Dispatcher or Coordinator.
  • Organize and coordinate jobs to ensure timely service delivery and reporting.
  • Maintain work areas, records, and equipment in a clean and functional condition.

Requirements

  • Basic grasp of mathematics and ability to work in an automated environment.
  • Ability to work on an on-call basis.
  • No fear of heights; ability to climb ladders and stairs for shore tanks.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience performing petroleum inspections is preferred.
  • IFIA certification is a plus.
