About the position

The California Project Engineer Intern position at Balfour Beatty offers a hands-on internship experience within a commercial construction company. This role is designed for students currently enrolled in a Construction Management, Engineering, or related program, providing them with the opportunity to learn about project management, safety and quality control, and various construction processes. Interns will gain practical experience in managing project budgets, coordinating with subcontractors, and understanding the intricacies of construction documentation and communication.

Responsibilities

• Learn about managing the project budget by controlling expenditures and coordinating billings.
• Learn about Safety and Quality Control programs and how to address problems.
• Understand company procedures and the correspondence process.
• Review and process submittal data and shop drawings.
• Coordinate submittals and deliveries that affect the project schedule with the Superintendent.
• Monitor weekly and monthly status reports and subcontractor meeting minutes.
• Understand change documents and proposal requests for price review.
• Participate in meetings with architect and owner representatives to gather necessary information and progress reports.
• Learn how to maintain RFI logs and change request logs.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Construction Management, Engineering, or related education program.
• Prior internships or work experience helpful but not required.
• Able to develop new skills and knowledge quickly.
• Able to work 40 hours a week for the duration of the 12-week program.
• Able to learn software systems including Microsoft Office suite, ProCore, BlueBeam.
• Demonstrate expanding knowledge of construction details.
