About the position

The Call Center Specialist at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is responsible for managing calls to the national hotline dedicated to missing and exploited children. This role involves accurately gathering and entering information to assist in the recovery and reunification of missing children, as well as responding to disaster-related inquiries. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work flexible hours, and a commitment to the organization's mission of protecting children.

Responsibilities

  • Answer calls to the national 800 missing and exploited children hotline.
  • Intake accurate detailed reports on sightings and leads regarding missing children.
  • Utilize available information to determine missing children case types.
  • Serve as a referral source to callers, including law enforcement and other organizations.
  • Respond to missing and/or exploited children leads and information received via various channels.
  • Enter CyberTipline Reports online for cases of child exploitation and child pornography.
  • Field calls to appropriate NCMEC personnel and direct callers to resources on the NCMEC website.
  • Provide notifications to on-call case managers and other agencies on critical missing children cases.
  • Take recovery reports of missing children and forward them to the appropriate case manager.
  • Maintain readiness for disaster-related requests and complete necessary reporting forms when required.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Good verbal, written, and telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and regular weekend shifts.
  • Typing speed of minimum 40 wpm, error-free.
  • Knowledge of word processing and database programs.
  • Basic familiarity with the World Wide Web and Internet applications.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in a foreign language if hired as a bilingual operator.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in spreadsheet and database software.
