About the position

The Camera Hardware Engineer will play a crucial role in the development of advanced camera systems for aerospace applications. This position focuses on the electrical engineering aspects, including architecture design, schematic layout, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance video solutions for human space exploration. The engineer will contribute to the innovation of video technologies while ensuring adherence to industry standards and quality production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of camera systems and related electronic components, including image sensors, high-speed memory devices, and digital buses.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as software and mechanical engineers, to establish specifications and requirements for video systems.
  • Conduct detailed circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout for camera subsystems while ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in the camera and video sectors.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues throughout the development and production processes.
  • Work with Test Engineers to create and execute test plans that validate the performance and reliability of imaging and storage systems.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff.
  • Partner with external suppliers and manufacturers to ensure quality production and timely delivery of video systems.
  • Contribute to product innovation by integrating advancements in camera technology and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • 3+ years of hands-on development experience, with a focus on camera or video technologies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of video recording systems and digital camera components is advantageous.
  • Experience designing or testing aerospace systems to military or spaceflight standards is preferred.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools, such as Altium Designer or Cadence.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces including MIPI, USB, Ethernet, and HDMI.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills with high-speed and complex electronic systems using tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, firmware, and software-hardware integration.
  • Leadership abilities and a collaborative spirit to work effectively within a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management and successfully bringing video-related projects to market on time and within budget.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to camera technologies.
  • Previous work in environments focused on aerospace or defense systems is a plus.
