About the position

The Camp Greenville Lifeguard plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable waterfront environment for campers at YMCA Camp Greenville. This position involves enforcing aquatics rules, managing waterfront activities, and providing excellent service to campers while upholding the camp's core values. Lifeguards are expected to work independently, supervise various aquatic activities, and support the overall mission of the camp, which focuses on community strength and individual growth.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and enforces aquatics rules and guidelines to ensure a safe waterfront environment.
  • Properly opens, performs daily tasks, and closes the aquatics area each day according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provides excellent service to campers and works with participants of all backgrounds.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, fully stocked, and well-organized work area.
  • Handles and resolves aquatics concerns and informs the supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Works without constant direct supervision and remains at assigned post for extended periods of time.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and contributes toward a quality work environment.
  • Supervises campers and staff at the waterfront during swim tests, free swim, canoeing, and kayaking.
  • Supports cabin leader staff when not in the program area and fills in for cabin leaders at times.
  • Serves as a role model, upholding camp values, and working with integrity, creativity, and safety in mind at all times.
  • Responsible for the health and well-being of the campers mentally, emotionally, and physically during their time at camp.
  • Approaches responsibilities in a fun, creative, enthusiastic, and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Current lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification (American Red Cross or YMCA) - required & must be willing to obtain prior to June 2025.
  • Must be 18 years old or older or graduated high school by June 2025.
  • Able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to all campers and staff.
  • Able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
  • Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with peers and campers.
