About the position

The Campus Independent Study Monitor is responsible for supervising students who have been referred to on-campus suspension (ISS/ISC) from classes. The role focuses on maintaining a quiet and controlled environment, ensuring students remain on task, and managing their daily activities during their suspension period.

Responsibilities

  • Immediately assign appropriate seating and administer work assignments upon receiving a student referred to ISS/ISC.
  • Maintain a silent environment in which students remain seated where assigned.
  • Monitor student progress to maintain on-task performance while in ISS/ISC.
  • Supervise restroom breaks for ISS/ISC students, who take two common breaks throughout the day aside from lunch.
  • Order the appropriate number of lunches from the cafeteria before the daily deadline.
  • Supervise the distribution of lunches and monitor the lunch break, administering cleanup afterward.
  • Monitor the overall daily cleanliness of the room and individual student seats and work materials to prevent vandalism or destruction.
  • Refer any problems to the immediate attention of an assistant principal.
  • Provide an admit back to class upon completion of the required period of referral to ISS/ISC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned on days when ISS/ISC may not be in operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.
  • ParaPro Exam or PAC Test (No Child Left Behind) / 48 College Hours.
  • Bilingual Test (if applicable).
  • Ability to maintain a strictly enforced quiet environment.
