About the position

The Campus Public Relations Coordinator is a full-time, tenure track position responsible for developing and implementing public relations activities for the campus and its Foundation/Institutional Advancement. This role involves coordinating with various teams to support strategic goals, managing media relations, and enhancing the visibility of campus programs and services to increase enrollment and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a public relations/communications calendar to increase awareness of campus programs and services.
  • Develop and distribute press releases and contribute content for social media.
  • Maintain relationships with local media including print, digital, and broadcast.
  • Produce documents such as reports, programs, invitations, and flyers to support community outreach and Institutional Advancement.
  • Serve as a point of contact for media and the press, acting as a spokesperson for the college and Foundation.
  • Research and advise college management on opportunities to promote the campus through public relations.
  • Create content and engagement strategies via campus social media to reach current students and develop student ambassadors.
  • Coordinate with freelancers, contractors, or other campus coordinators for various projects.
  • Manage projects that include writing, editing, and production of collateral materials that align with CT State branding and messaging.
  • Participate in college events such as convocation and commencement ceremonies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriately related field.
  • One or more years of related experience in public relations, journalism, or social media.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in public relations, copywriting, desktop publishing, event planning, photography, and media relations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong information technology literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of experience in public relations for a large institution.
  • Two or more years of experience in media relations for a large institution.
  • Two or more years of experience writing original content to promote a product or service.
  • One or more years of experience managing social media for a corporation or institution.
