About the position

The Campus Site Communications Manager will lead strategic internal communications, change management initiatives, and employee engagement activities at General Motors' major employee campuses and labs in Southeast Michigan. This role is essential for unifying communication efforts across these locations, modernizing internal communication channels, and enhancing employee productivity and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee communications for office locations in Warren, Pontiac, and Detroit, and manage communications contract support for Milford campus and Southeast Michigan Labs.
  • Work cross-functionally with site leadership, safety, environmental, facilities, HR/Labor, medical, and security.
  • Story mine, write and edit a variety of internal communications, including campus-wide announcements and internal articles for 30,000+ residents.
  • Manage multiple Southeast Michigan non-manufacturing campus internal news sites and their internal social networking tool.
  • Handle all photo, video, and event requests across campuses, ensuring effective event execution.
  • Lead communication efforts during crisis events and create comprehensive emergency response communication plans.
  • Serve as an integral part of the Emergency Response Coordination Team, drafting and distributing urgent alerts to campus tenants.
  • Develop strategic communication plans to support business actions and change management initiatives.
  • Assist senior executives by coordinating town hall meetings, crafting leader messages, and preparing remarks for various employee events.
  • Develop and implement playbooks, templates, and processes to ensure best practice sharing across GM's global campuses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field
  • 8+ years of proven experience in managing communications for large employee campuses.
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and editing skills with the ability to align with corporate strategic goals.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and clarity in all communications.
  • Ability to plan and execute strategic initiatives, including change management and large-scale events.
  • Adaptability to manage multiple high-profile projects and respond to changes with short notice.
  • Capable of working independently while interacting with colleagues from executives to hourly employees.
  • Managerial courage to push back, redirect, and counsel when necessary.
