About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Simpson Strong-Tie is responsible for processing, coordinating, and reviewing Canadian payroll. This role collaborates closely with Human Resources to ensure accurate payroll deductions and compliance with Canadian payroll laws. The position also offers opportunities to support the finance team and engage in projects beyond payroll responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Process Canadian payroll accurately and timely using Workday for biweekly and semimonthly payrolls, ensuring compliance with company policies and Canadian multi-province payroll laws.
  • Handle new hires, status changes, terminations, third-party disability pay, and garnishments.
  • Collaborate with the Canada location to research and resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Work with managers to ensure employee hours are submitted accurately and approved on time each pay period.
  • Monitor and secure proper payroll documentation, preparing for audits.
  • Assist with Workday testing and generate reports.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in Canadian payroll processing across multiple provinces.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll laws and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in using Workday or similar payroll platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Attention to detail and quality in task completion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-management skills with a high level of initiative and commitment.
  • Ability to build and sustain cooperative working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Payroll Compliance Certification (PCP) preferred.
  • 4 years of experience processing Canadian payroll across multiple provinces.
  • 2 years of experience in Canadian payroll accounting and tax.
