About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Simpson Strong-Tie is responsible for processing, coordinating, and reviewing Canadian payroll. This role collaborates closely with Human Resources to ensure accurate payroll deductions and compliance with Canadian payroll laws. The position also offers opportunities to support the finance team and engage in projects beyond payroll responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate and timely Canadian payroll processing using Workday for biweekly and semimonthly payrolls, ensuring compliance with company policies and Canadian multi-province payroll laws.
  • Process new hires, status changes, terminations, third party disability pay, and garnishments.
  • Work with Canada location to research and resolve payroll-related problems.
  • Collaborate with managers to ensure employee hours are submitted accurately and approved on time every pay period.
  • Monitor, retain, and secure proper payroll documentation, including preparation for audits.
  • Assist with Workday testing and running reports.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • 4 years processing Canadian Payroll across multiple provinces preferred.
  • 2 years of Canadian payroll accounting and tax experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian Payroll Laws.
  • Proficiency using Workday and/or similar payroll platforms.
  • Proficient in MS Office with strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to diligently attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of others.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to build and sustain cooperative working relationships.

Nice-to-haves
