About the position

The Cancer Registry Specialist is responsible for abstracting specific patient information from various resources, including medical records, and coding this information into a database according to established protocols. This role involves maintaining and editing data for accuracy and completeness, as well as managing record-keeping systems and procedures for clinical studies. The position is part-time and operates on a per diem basis, requiring flexibility in hours.

Responsibilities

  • Abstract specific patient information from medical records and other resources.
  • Code information into a database according to prescribed protocols.
  • Maintain and edit data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage record-keeping systems and procedures for clinical studies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Completion of Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology courses required.
  • Two years of experience as a Cancer Registrar preferred.
  • CTR certification or CTR eligible required.
  • Knowledge of standards for Commission on Cancer (CoC) and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical trials is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of cancer registry standards.
