About the position

The CANS Assessor plays a crucial role in providing consultative services and technical assistance related to the CANS assessment process. This position involves planning, developing, and implementing agency programs while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The assessor conducts assessments in various settings, including homes and via telehealth, and integrates information from multiple sources to provide comprehensive evaluations. The role also includes serving as a subject matter expert and providing guidance to staff and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct CANS assessment interviews in various settings.
  • Conduct assessments at convenient times for children and families, potentially outside regular business hours.
  • Arrange for formal interpreter services as needed.
  • Integrate information from multiple sources into the CANS assessment.
  • Utilize a person-centered approach during interviews.
  • Review research and literature on CANS assessment administration.
  • Provide input on policies to the Texas Child-Centered Care implementation team.
  • Document all case activity as per program requirements.
  • Enter assessment information into the eCANS web-based application.
  • Communicate CANS results to the child's placement team.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to CPS and CPI staff.
  • Resolve disputes related to CANS assessment results and recommendations.
  • Serve as a liaison to DFPS staff and create educational materials.
  • Interpret state and federal regulations and program policies.
  • Research deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor CANS reports to ensure timely assessments.
  • Evaluate personal job productivity to meet expectations.
  • Provide input on developing or revising CANS policy manuals.
  • Prepare various reports as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Business, Statistics, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in child welfare, quality management, data analysis, or risk management preferred.
  • Must complete CANS initial and annual certification requirements through the Praed Foundation.
