The Capital Asset Manager position oversees the daily operations of plant accounting and is responsible for significant portions of the balance sheet, including but not limited to fixed assets, long-term debt, other deferred assets and liabilities, and net assets. The incumbent applies rigorous financial analysis to inform operational or strategic decision-making related to Capital Investments. This role involves liaising with various Health System and Campus departments and UCOP, creating the annual Depreciation Expense, Interest Expense, and Capital-Related Cash Flow budgets, preparing financial reports and analyses for property, plant, and equipment, ensuring proper accounting treatment of all PP&E transactions, enforcing necessary controls over all PP&E transactions, and ensuring the proper recording of long-term debt. Additionally, the incumbent coordinates regular debt due diligence activities and works with internal staff and state authorities to obtain and administer grant awards for Health System programs. The position also includes planning, organizing, and directing assigned Property Accounting staff to provide efficient and effective performance, overseeing the maintenance of the detailed asset sub-ledger system.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of plant accounting.

  • Ensure proper recording of long-term debt and coordinate debt due diligence activities.
  • Work with internal staff and state authorities to obtain and administer grant awards for Health System programs.
  • Plan, organize, and direct assigned Property Accounting staff to ensure effective performance.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the detailed asset sub-ledger system.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of Financial Statements and their impact on property Accounting Activities.
  • Strong commitment to the values of the organization: Academic Achievement, Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence.
  • Sound critical thinking skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically to problem solve.
  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in accounting.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of healthcare-related accounting treatments as it relates to plant accounting.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Ability to write policies and procedures and offer alternatives when needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
  • Ability to effectively manage and motivate staff.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs and improve organizational performance.
