About the position

The Capital Campaign Community Relations & Marketing Coordinator at The Salvation Army of Marquette County plays a vital role in supporting the Community Relations and Development team. This position is focused on enhancing public relations, traditional marketing, social marketing, community outreach, and event management. The coordinator will be responsible for maintaining records related to the capital campaign, ensuring that all contacts, commitments, and donations are accurately tracked throughout the campaign's lifecycle. This role requires a proactive approach to communication, as the coordinator will prepare and distribute press releases, media alerts, and other essential communications regarding programming needs. In addition to administrative support, the coordinator will work to develop and maintain positive, long-term relationships with media representatives. This involves regular communication through phone calls, emails, and face-to-face meetings to foster collaboration and support for The Salvation Army's initiatives. The coordinator will also represent The Salvation Army at various community functions, presenting the organization to community leaders and groups, and identifying networking opportunities that can enhance community engagement. Collaboration is key in this role, as the coordinator will work closely with the Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator to promote special fundraising events. The coordinator will assist in creating development reports, marketing materials, and managing social media outlets for Marquette County. This includes developing and executing a social media plan, responding to community interactions, and sharing relevant information to engage the public effectively. The coordinator will also assist in the strategic planning process for Marquette County, coordinating with the Development Director to implement initiatives that align with the organization's goals. This position requires creativity in identifying internal stories and testimonials, as well as preparing public statements and talking points for staff. The coordinator will manage event attendance plans, track outcomes, and ensure follow-up actions are taken to maximize the impact of community events. Overall, this role is essential in promoting The Salvation Army's mission and enhancing its visibility within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains records of contacts, commitments, and donations for the capital campaign throughout its life cycle.
  • Responsible for preparing, posting, and distributing press releases, media alerts, feature stories, event alerts, media invites, and other communication regarding programming needs.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining positive, long-term relationships with media through regular communication.
  • Presents the Region to community leaders, groups, and organizations through networking opportunities and community events.
  • Works collaboratively with Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator to promote special fundraising events.
  • Assists in the creation of various development reports as needed.
  • Assists with the development and basic design of marketing and promotional materials for The Salvation Army of Marquette County.
  • Maintains and regularly updates social media outlets for Marquette County and assists in developing a social media plan.
  • Assists in managing traditional and digital media efforts.
  • Creates general correspondences, memos, and proofreads copy for spelling, grammar, and layout.
  • Assists the Development Director in coordinating, preparing, and implementing the strategic plan for Marquette County.
  • Photographs events as directed by supervisor.
  • Assists in identifying and proposing internal stories and testimonials, developing public statements and talking points.
  • Creates a community event attendance plan, coordinates all event appearances, records, and tracks outcomes, and handles all event follow-up as necessary.
  • Develops and manages content for newsletters, e-news, correspondence, and Region websites.
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in public relations, public administration, finance, or business.
  • Two years of experience with marketing and public relations, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • CFRE certification is helpful, but not required.
