About the position

Mortenson Development, Inc. (MDI) is seeking a Senior Capital Markets Analyst to join our headquarters office in Minneapolis, MN. This pivotal role will report directly to MDI's Capital Markets Executive and will involve close collaboration with MDI's regional development offices. The Senior Capital Markets Analyst will be responsible for a wide range of new development and acquisition opportunities across various asset classes, guiding projects from inception to exit or operations. In this role, the Senior Capital Markets Analyst will interface with development staff, legal teams, and the MDI executive team, playing a key role in the financial aspects of our projects. The responsibilities will include complex financial modeling, valuations, underwriting, and the creation of offering memoranda for both debt and equity. The analyst will also be involved in asset management and capital raising efforts, ensuring that MDI's projects are financially sound and strategically positioned for success. The position requires a strong focus on underwriting and evaluation support across multiple property types, including medical office, multifamily, hotel, industrial, mission-critical, land, and alternative asset classes. The analyst will prepare information memoranda and associated materials for distribution to potential investors and lenders, supporting the overall due diligence process from pre-development and site selection through to completion and disposition. Additionally, the analyst will develop and implement financial models to support credit analysis and conduct analytical work that underpins the financing strategies of development opportunities. This role also involves identifying areas for process improvement to enhance communication and efficiency within the MDI team.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with development staff, legal staff, and the MDI executive team.
  • Perform complex financial modeling, valuations, and underwriting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in real estate, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years' progressive work experience in commercial real estate.
  • Experience in structuring and documenting transactions.
  • Experience with transactions, underwriting, and due diligence.
  • Advanced analytical skills with demonstrated ability in financial modeling.
  • Strong underwriting ability with a deep understanding of property valuation using discounted cash flow methodology.
  • Sound credit background in commercial real estate and capital markets.
  • Successful experience in developing and cultivating long-term relationships.
  • Strong people skills with high integrity and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and manage change effectively.
