About the position

The position is responsible for tracking and reporting on the capital expenditure program for the respective State Business Operations at American Water. The role involves assisting in the strategic enhancement of the Capital Investment Management (CIM) program, focusing on data input/analysis, performance monitoring, capital program spend tracking, and general support to ensure optimal business benefits and outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all stages of the CIM program to ensure capital expenditure plans and projects are appraised, prioritized, approved, and implemented effectively.
  • Assist with quality assurance and program audit protocols to ensure compliance with CIM policies and procedures.
  • Participate in best practice CIM activities to maximize the value of the state's capital expenditures.
  • Assist with budget information for management reports, including monthly, annual, and quarterly forecasts.
  • Monitor, track, and report on CIM-related and Engineering functional KPIs.
  • Assist the State Operations team in developing cost-effective solutions to meet customer and technical requirements.
  • Contribute to the formulation, control, and monitoring of annual capital budgets and strategic capital expenditure plans.
  • Utilize project management protocols to facilitate strategic guidance of the capital program.
  • Coordinate and administer functional support work processes related to asset capital planning and project delivery.
  • Input and analyze data for department work processes and prepare variance reports as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents related to the capital investment budget.
  • Prepare and analyze functional key performance indicator reports and dashboards.
  • Support procurement of materials and services and utilize business systems effectively.
  • Prepare and maintain files, records, drawings, reports, maps, charts, budgets, and other data related to engineering and construction projects.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Math, Business or Finance is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred; strong role-related work experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in utility operations, engineering, construction, or financial roles is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications including MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
