About the position

The CAPS Professional Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader at Holyoke Community College is a part-time role focused on enhancing student learning through structured study sessions. The SI Leader will attend selected course classes, facilitate study sessions, and collaborate with faculty and supervisors to support students' academic success. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Attend class meetings of the selected course as needed, take notes, obtain syllabi, do homework and read all assigned materials including text(s) and supplemental readings.
  • Conduct at least three to five 50-minute study sessions per week throughout the term using strategies learned through Tutor Training, SI Workshop, and Leader Manual.
  • Create and use SI session handouts approved by faculty.
  • Regularly meet with the SI supervisor to discuss observations of the SI sessions and planning of SI sessions.
  • Notify supervisor about problems or potential problems.
  • Meet with other SI Leaders and supervisory staff at scheduled meetings.
  • Introduce themselves and the program to the virtual class and supply the class and faculty with their contact information.
  • Maintain contact with the Faculty and provide information regarding student's progress or contact faculty when needed regarding course material/assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
