About the position

Bering Straits Professional Services, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Captain for Center for Disease Control in Cincinnati Ohio. The Captain enforces regulations designed to prevent breaches of security; exercises judgment and uses discretion in dealing with whether first response should be to intervene directly (asking for assistance when deemed necessary and time allows), to keep situation under surveillance, or to report situation so that it can be handled by appropriate authority. Duties require specialized training in methods and techniques of protecting security areas. Commonly, the Captain is required to demonstrate continuing physical fitness and proficiency with firearms or other special weapons.

Responsibilities

  • Establish inspection tours for ASOs.
  • Authorize deviations from established schedules when unusual conditions occur.
  • Perform all designated guard functions including testing, monitoring, and responding to building fire alarm and electronic security systems.
  • Perform necessary services to ensure safety and protection of building personnel and property.
  • Report hazardous conditions and items in need of repair.
  • Maintain daily reports and log entries for visitors.
  • Prepare additional reports for incidents such as thefts and accidents.
  • Provide and maintain a high state of security in and around the buildings.
  • Notify the Security Control Room and police/fire departments in emergencies.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights; close windows; secure doors.
  • Observe and enforce building regulations.
  • Check machinery/equipment for malfunctions.
  • Comply with procedures for lost and found articles.
  • Conduct quarterly exercises at each owned location.
  • Be familiar with operation of elevators and emergency evacuation chairs.
  • Issue permanent and temporary identification cards/badges.
  • Accept and deliver express mail packages.
  • Conduct visitor center operations including issuing badges and operating security equipment.
  • Assist with traffic operations on properties.
  • Conduct rover foot patrols and respond to alarms.
  • Perform enhanced access control procedures for CDC laboratories.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Meet all basic qualifications.
  • Have not had a previous private investigator or security guard license revoked or denied.
  • Have not been declared incompetent by a court.
  • Have not been convicted of a misdemeanor under the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Have not been convicted of a felony.
  • Have not filed for bankruptcy in the past 48 months.
  • Have not engaged in illegal activities related to firearms or security.
  • Hold a Position of Trust.
  • Pass a CDC administered Background Check.
  • Have a valid state driver's license and a low-risk driving history.
  • Be literate in English.
  • Have basic knowledge of computerized access control and video monitoring systems.
  • Pass drug test prior to hire and be subject to random testing.
  • Have a valid OPOTA Certification.
