About the position

Frank Myers Auto Maxx is currently seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to join our team. This full-time position is based at our dealership located at 4200 N Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller in an automotive dealership setting. This role is crucial as it involves overseeing the entire Accounting Department and managing a complete set of financial books for the dealership. We are looking for a candidate with strong leadership skills who can actively engage in the day-to-day operations of the dealership. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing complete financial statements and submitting them to management within established timeframes. They will also interpret and analyze these financial statements to provide insights into the dealership's financial health. In this role, the Automotive Controller will have full control over the General Ledger and all accounts, ensuring that the Owner of the dealership is kept informed about business trends and cash needs. The position requires the development and maintenance of an effective cash management system, as well as the management of daily accounting operations to ensure compliance with company accounting processes and policies. The Controller will be responsible for closing the books accurately each month and preparing required statements and reports. Additionally, safeguarding the store's assets and ensuring that internal controls are in place is a key responsibility. The Controller will also assist department managers in understanding their financial reports and creating action plans for operational improvements. Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete financial statements and submit to management in accordance with established timeframes
  • Interpret and analyze financial statements
  • Full control over the General Ledger and all accounts
  • Keep the Owner of dealership informed on the trends and cash needs of the business
  • Develop and maintain an effective cash management system
  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations of the store to ensure that all transactions are recorded in compliance with company accounting processes and policies
  • Close the books accurately each month
  • Prepare and submit required statements and reports
  • Manage and safeguard the store's assets and ensure that internal controls are in place
  • Assist department managers in reading and interpreting their financial reports and in creating action plans needed to improve their operation
  • Respond to requests for information and assistance in a timely manner
  • Work with General Manager to improve revenue or reduce expenses in order to meet or exceed budget and grow the business
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the company's Vision, Mission, and Values in all interactions with customers, co-workers, and suppliers
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with all Department Managers

Requirements

  • Previous Automotive Dealership Controller experience is required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited university or commensurate experience
  • Five years of experience in leadership roles with increasing degree of responsibility
  • Previous DMS experience required
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite, emphasis on Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to work with high performing personnel
  • Prior dealership or operational accounting experience, with increasing responsibilities
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess an acceptable driving record and a valid driver's license in your state of residence
