About the position
The cardiac sonographer will perform essential functions of an echo tech, including recording high-quality echocardiograms using various imaging techniques. The role involves ensuring compliance with standards and protocols while providing patient care in diverse settings within the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Records high quality transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, and stress echocardiograms.
- Utilizes agitated saline and echo contrast as needed.
- Writes an accurate preliminary report using Epic reporting template.
- Recognizes and reports critical result findings in accordance with department policy.
- Ensures echo orders are accurate and appropriate prior to each exam.
- Practices and complies with all infection control standards.
- Performs echo exams in all settings including outpatient, inpatient, and portable echoes in various hospital locations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Operations Manager, or Lead Cardiac Sonographer.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited cardiac sonography degree program is required.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credentials which must be current and continuously maintained.
- New graduates must be registry eligible at time of hire and must obtain RDCS or RCS credentials within 6 months of hire date.
- BLS Certification required.
- At least one year of experience performing echocardiograms in a hospital setting preferred.
- Able to record an uncomplicated echocardiogram accurately within 30 minutes.
- Able to enter data electronically accurately and quickly.
- Able to perform and troubleshoot stress echo exams.
- Able to perform and troubleshoot TEE exams.
- Good communication skills with physicians, nurses, fellow staff members, and patients.
