About the position
The Cardiac Sonographer at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center is responsible for performing various cardiac imaging procedures, including adult, pediatric, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms. This role requires effective communication with patients and healthcare teams, ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures. The Cardiac Sonographer may also administer Ultrasound Enhancing Agents and is expected to maintain equipment and assist in departmental operations. Availability for call, weekends, and holidays is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform all cardiac imaging procedures including echocardiograms.
- Verify clinician orders and obtain complete clinical history from patients.
- Administer Ultrasound Enhancing Agents and conduct saline bubble studies as needed.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during procedures, maintaining dignity and privacy.
- Review ultrasound images for clinical acceptability and release patients accordingly.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new departmental employees.
- Maintain and clean imaging equipment according to infection control policies.
- Restock supplies and maintain a clean department environment.
- Transport and position patients for procedures, ensuring proper identification and comfort.
- Document all required information concisely and legibly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited program required.
- Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program preferred.
- Registered Medical Sonographer or Registered Cardiac Sonographer certification required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
- Minimum 1 year experience in echocardiography preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with pediatric and transesophageal echocardiograms.
- Knowledge of infection control policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
