About the position

The Registered Cardiac Sonographer at MGC Cardiology Spartanburg is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks that utilize high-frequency ultrasound waves to assist in detecting anatomical abnormalities within the heart. This role requires the sonographer to adhere to protocols and procedures established by their professional certifying bodies and the guidelines of accreditation. The position is full-time, operating during the day from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and involves both routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms, as requested by physicians. The sonographer must demonstrate proficiency in these tasks and ensure compliance with IAC standards of practice. In addition to performing echocardiograms, the sonographer is responsible for assisting with quality control and maintenance of all equipment in the area. This includes the proper utilization of accessory equipment such as transducers, cleaning systems, warmers, scanners, and C-PACS workstations. The sonographer must also communicate any changes in patient conditions to the medical staff and provide both oral and written summaries of preliminary findings to the reading cardiologist. They are expected to determine if additional views or images are necessary and discuss these with the physician. The role also involves assisting in the training of new staff and students during clinical rotations, following and maintaining hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and being knowledgeable of compliance and regulatory requirements. The sonographer will participate in rotating call and coverage for after-hours and weekends, ensure correct charging of procedures and supplies daily, and respond calmly and efficiently to various situations. Attendance at 75% of annual departmental meetings, in-services, and active participation in continuing education activities is also required. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor or manager as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with RDCS or RCS in adult echo and one year of on-the-job training or graduate of an accredited Echo program.
  • Experience in Adult TTE and TEE.
  • Currently Registered ARDMS or CCI in Cardiac Ultrasound.
  • BLS Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Cardiovascular Technology.
  • Experience in Pediatric Echo and Structural Heart.
