About the position

The Cardiac Sonographer at AdventHealth South Overland Park plays a crucial role in performing non-invasive diagnostic echocardiographic procedures. This position requires a high level of technical skill and independent judgment to assist physicians in diagnosing heart disease. The Cardiac Sonographer will be responsible for selecting appropriate technical factors for each patient, maintaining confidentiality, and demonstrating professional behavior in all interactions. The role involves cleaning and restocking the echo procedure room, transporting patients, and ensuring that all equipment is properly disinfected after each use. The Cardiac Sonographer will also be expected to attend staff meetings to stay updated on departmental policies and procedures, and maintain records of educational requirements for ICAEL and cardiac registry. In addition to technical skills, the Cardiac Sonographer must exhibit flexibility and adaptability, demonstrating a commitment to patient care needs and organizational policies. The position requires competency in performing various types of cardiac sonograms, including Transthoracic Adult, Transesophageal, Stress Echocardiogram, and Contrast Echocardiogram. The Sonographer will assist physicians during procedures, ensuring proper operation of echo machines and digital capture and storage of images. The role is integral to the team, contributing to the overall productivity and efficiency of the department while providing high-quality care to patients in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-invasive diagnostic echocardiographic procedures at a technical level.
  • Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis for each exam.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and business information.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior in all working relationships and responsibilities.
  • Attend staff meetings to remain up to date with department/hospital policies and procedures.
  • Clean and restock echo procedure room to prepare for each patient.
  • Transport patients to and from the department to reduce lags in department schedule and patient wait times.
  • Demonstrate competency to perform various types of Cardiac Sonograms.
  • Assist physician during TEE's and follow department procedures for exams.
  • Demonstrate understanding and competency of ultrasound physics and cardiac anomalies.
  • Explain proper operation of echo machine digital capture and storage.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) (New graduates have one year from date of graduation to acquire)
