About the position
The Cardiac Sonographer at Spalding Medical Center is responsible for performing various cardiac imaging procedures, including echocardiograms for adults and children, as well as transesophageal and stress echocardiograms. This role requires effective communication with patients and healthcare teams, ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures. The Cardiac Sonographer may also administer Ultrasound Enhancing Agents and is expected to take call and work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
Responsibilities
- Perform all cardiac imaging procedures including adult, pediatric, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms.
- Verify proper clinician orders and obtain complete clinical histories from patients.
- Administer Ultrasound Enhancing Agents and conduct saline bubble studies as needed.
- Review ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results and release patients accordingly.
- Assist other team members in all modalities when needed and observe patient conditions for necessary physician intervention.
- Ensure patient privacy and comfort throughout the exam and maintain their dignity.
- Organize schedule and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
- Participate in the orientation and training of departmental employees and provide preparatory instructions to patients.
- Ensure equipment is operational and follows infection control policies.
- Restock linens and supplies, maintain a clean department, and transport patients as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Trade School Diploma/Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred.
- Registered Medical Sonographer or Registered Cardiac Sonographer certification required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in echocardiography preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program preferred.
