About the position

As a Care Assistant, you will provide direct care to residents following individual service plans, treating each resident with respect and dignity while encouraging their independence. You will assist residents with activities of daily living, serve meals, maintain records, and foster a homelike atmosphere throughout the community. This role requires a commitment to the health and emotional well-being of residents, as well as adherence to safety and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assists residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities and meals according to the individual service plan.
  • Serves meals to residents in the dining room or apartments and may assist in preparing meals following preplanned menus.
  • Initiates and participates in leisure activities provided for residents as described in the activity calendar.
  • Maintains residents' records daily, in a timely manner, and in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • May assist residents with medication as defined in medication procedure, following physician orders and state laws.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the residents.
  • Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly to resident requests for assistance.
  • Knows location of each resident and notifies the supervisor immediately if unable to locate a resident.
  • Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Three to six months related experience preferred and/or training in direct service with older adults.
  • Knowledge of dementia, particularly of the Alzheimer's type, is helpful.
  • County Food Handlers Card, First Aid Certification, and CPR Certification required.
  • In accordance with state law, may need to possess current state certification.
