About the position

The Care Team Associate in the Medicine Specialty unit at OU Health is a part-time role focused on providing essential patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. This position involves monitoring patients' health status, implementing care plans, and assisting with various medical procedures. The role is designed for individuals looking to build a strong foundation in healthcare while working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Systematically and continually monitor the patient's health status and implement the plan of care under the supervision of the RN.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN.
  • Take and record blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, and weight of patients.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring and monitor intravenous infusions and transfusions as directed by the RN.
  • Set up and discontinue telemetry monitors, collect specimens, and apply sterile dressings.
  • Perform stomal irrigation, apply colostomy pouches, and administer tube feedings to patients.
  • Report symptoms and significant changes in the patient's condition or behavior to the RN.
  • Assist with the admission, discharge, and transfer process of patients.
  • Transport patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary and assist transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Keep the patient's room clean and orderly, make beds, and replace soiled linen.

Requirements

  • Six months experience in a healthcare setting or completion of a health-related vocational education course.
  • Completion of the first semester of clinical education in an associate or bachelor's degree program from a healthcare discipline.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with patient monitoring and tube feeding.
  • Familiarity with care plans and patient observation.
