About the position

The Career Advisor/Coach at CAMBA plays a crucial role in supporting low-income community members, particularly immigrants and refugees, in achieving their employment and educational goals. This position involves creating individualized employment plans, facilitating workshops, and providing case management to help clients overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. The advisor will work closely with clients to develop skills, monitor progress, and advocate for their needs within various systems.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain client files.
  • Collect and submit all documentation regarding client and contract outcomes.
  • Prepare Individual Employment Plans for clients, identifying employment goals and services.
  • Understand contract requirements and service definitions.
  • Plan and facilitate orientations and assessments.
  • Analyze results of career assessment instruments and review with clients.
  • Advise clients on realistic career goals and necessary education/training.
  • Assist clients in developing educational/employment goals for self-sufficiency.
  • Facilitate skill development in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Help clients maintain and update resumes and cover letters.
  • Facilitate group instruction using job training program curriculum.
  • Develop strategies with clients to overcome barriers and advocate for themselves.
  • Monitor clients' progress and document it during the retention period.
  • Act as client liaison/advocate with outside organizations.
  • Provide information for reports on client outcomes.
  • Facilitate group workshops/peer support groups.
  • Monitor client progress in classroom settings and address negative behaviors.
  • Participate in marketing/outreach/assessment activities for programs.
  • Assist clients in completing applications for government programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) and one (1) year of experience in client service or customer service.
  • Familiarity with NYC public benefits eligibility and access.
  • Client-focused, culturally competent, empathetic, and flexible to client needs.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with refugees, immigrants, young adults, and low-income populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
