About the position
The Career Advisor position at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania involves providing professional employment services and outreach to assist individuals in securing gainful employment. The role focuses on conducting vocational assessments, identifying barriers to employment, and promoting PA CareerLink services to both jobseekers and employers. The advisor will develop and implement plans to help individuals achieve their employment goals while addressing the workforce needs of local businesses.
Responsibilities
- Conduct vocational and career assessments of jobseekers to determine career objectives, interests, skills, and abilities.
- Identify suitability for and/or barriers to employment and training for jobseekers.
- Provide appropriate tools and resources for jobseekers to achieve employment goals.
- Promote PA CareerLink services to businesses, community organizations, and the public.
- Document activities and services in the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS).
- Develop and conduct orientations and workshops for jobseekers.
- Plan and conduct group and individualized career counseling sessions.
- Assist jobseekers and employers with PA CareerLink Online enrollment.
- Work with employers to determine their workforce needs and address recruitment and retention concerns.
Requirements
- Successful completion of the Career Advisor Trainee training program; or
- One year of experience interviewing the public to collect and identify customer needs, evaluating eligibility for programs, and researching data to make decisions, along with a bachelor's degree; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
